OK Go play at the Smirnoff Electric Cabaret

The Smirnoff Company is pleased to announce it is returning to London?s Koko on November 22nd 2007 with Smirnoff Electric Cabaret? - a night showcasing and celebrating some of the most original nightlife and entertainment around.

Featuring hand-picked contemporary cabaret acts and performers including aerial acrobats, magicians, beat-boxers, Kissy Sell Out on the decks, an exclusive live set from US indie-rockers OK Go, flamboyant Parisian rock troupe Fancy and dance floor dynamite Goose, the night is shaping up to be one of the most unique in town.

The Koko show will feature LA-based four piece band OK Go who are devising an original, one-off performance especially for this event. The band shot to international stardom with their highly original 'Here it Goes Again' music video which saw them dancing on treadmills and ? with over 30 million views ? has been one of YouTube?s most watched clips as well as earning them a prestigious Grammy.

OK Go will be joined by Kissy Sell Out, the 23 year-old electro wizard currently taking UK clubs by storm. As if delivering floor-destroying noise-funk reworks for Groove Armada, Sugababes, Calvin Harris and All Saints wasn?t enough for a DJ of his years, Kissy has been snapped up by BBC Radio 1, presenting on their weekly 'In New DJs We Trust? show.

Next up are Parisian rockers Fancy who, having just released their debut album, are fast taking on the world, eyeliner, feather boas and killer tunes at the ready. With support slots for Daft Punk and The Rapture and flamboyant French style-mag shoots under their studded belts, this will be one of their biggest UK shows to date. Keeping with the eclectic theme, Goose are set to take to the stage with their synthed-out brand of Belgian electronica; imagine a band that mixes circles with Soulwax and cites AC/DC as part of their musical DNA.

The Koko event will also feature original Smirnoff signature cocktails and introduce unique ways of serving drinks. After the opportunity to sample a Smirnoff cocktail on entry, once inside, guests may be invited to choose a drink by scent, with greeters using specially-designed 'snifters? (hand-blown glass nosing tubes) to offer a choice of three different drinks. Further, there will be a hidden boudoir bar for guests to seek out, clues about which will be unveiled throughout the night.

Ian Curtis biopic wins prizes at Cannes Film Festival

The new Ian Curtis biopic 'Control' has won a host of acclaim and prizes at this year's Cannes Film Festival, including Best European Film.

Anton Corbijn's movie about the Joy Division singer, who committed suicide at the height of the band's powers in 1980, was shown outside the main Palme d'Or competition.

However, 'Control' was the big winner of the Director's Fortnight section, winning the CICAE Art & Essai prize for Best Film.

The movie also claimed the 'Regards Jeunes' award for best first or second directed feature film and the Europa Cinemas Label prize for Best European Film in the sidebar.

The Europa Cinemas jury said about the film: "This is a very impressive and assured debut from a renowned photographer, but he never allows the look of the film, beautiful though it is, to detract from the powerful story and character development.

"The performances are all excellent, not just the leading characters. We feel that this is a film that will strike a real chord with audiences around Europe, and not just with music lovers."

The movie is an adaptation of Curtis widow Deborah's memoirs of her life with the singer, 'Touching From A Distance'. In the movie, she is played by Oscar-nominated actress Samantha Morton, while Curtis is played by relative unknown Sam Riley.

'Control' is due for release later this year.
